Discover 40 Reed Quintets with LINK
LINK is a work by Michel van der Aa, composed especially to celebrate Calefax’s 40th anniversary. No fewer than 40 reed quintets from around the world are performing the piece. To follow this project, a special online concert hall has been created at link.reedquintet.net.
40 Days of Discovery
On the first day, Sunday, October 12, a video by Calefax will be released. In this video, they introduce the project, share insights about its creation and our collaboration with Michel van der Aa, and provide a brief explanation of the piece. As a bonus, you’ll catch glimpses of some unique spots around Amsterdam.From Monday, October 13 through Thursday, November 20, a different reed quintet will be featured each day, showing their process of rehearsing LINK. All previously released videos will remain accessible. This is a unique opportunity to discover ensembles from across the globe.
From Online to Live
Does this digital journey leave you wanting more? Great news: Calefax will perform the premiere of Michel van der Aa’s LINK during the Calefax Reed Festival (Amsterdam, November 20–23), the grand finale we’re all counting down to. In addition, 10 of the 39 fellow reed quintets featured online will also perform live that weekend.The Akropolis Reed Quintet (USA) and Kalamos Reed Quintet (Croatia) will give full-length concerts on Saturday, while the Dianto Reed Quintet (Netherlands) performs on Sunday.
Moreover, seven reed quintets will give free performances at the Sena Showcase Stage on Saturday and Sunday:
